Pebbles

We design, supply, install and maintain aquaponics systems.

We have the experience to design systems which give you the best chance of success. Instead of experimenting, making mistakes and losing your precious fish, get it right from the start. We know how to take advantage of what you already have — slope, light, shade and areas that provide thermal mass. Cleverly using what you already have means lower initial and ongoing costs, less maintenance and a better chance of success. The Canberra environment poses it’s own challenges to aquaponics. There are 20 degree seasonal temperature changes and sub-zero temperatures. Systems must be designed to cope with the elements.

Like gardening, local knowledge can be the difference between success and failure. We have been designing aquaponics systems in Canberra for 4 years and have learned from experience how to cope with the Canberra climate.

Pond conversions

A great way to reduce the cost of seting up an Aquaponics is to convert an existing pond. Many Canberra gardens include a stagnant murky pond, filled with algae, with fish that are rarely seen. Algae grows in a pond in the same way that plants grow in an aquaponics system. Fish in the pond produce ammonia waste, bacteria on the walls of the pond convert waste to nitrates. Algae, an aquatic plant, draws on nitrates, water and sunlight to grow. If you have an ornamental pond in your backyard, you could put this resource to work for you. You can reset the balance so that vegetables use the nitrates and starve the algae. Algae will stop growing and your pond will be clear and beautiful.

Consultation

Alternatively if you want to take the plunge and do it all yourself, we offer consultation services which will give you the heads up you need to get your system working without making all the usual mistakes.

Online Store

Of course I also offer products which you can buy online through the online store - great if you want to piece together your own system.
