Trout

Hello again,

It's March and that means it is trout time. Last year I think we had them in by now, but this year I'm a bit behind. Unfortunately I reckon we might have some issues sourcing fingerlings this year due to the flooding.

Gaden Trout Hatchery have brook trout again this year, same deal as last year where we have to go down to get them. $125 per 100 + a packing fee if we pick them up in March, $150 per 100 + packing fee if we pick them up in April. Any volunteers willing to drive down to Jindabyne to pick them up?

Eel Tailed Catfish

Hello Canberra Aquaponicers,

As I mentioned in the last email, I'm more about setting up a bit of a community this year. So I'm going to try and get a group buy of native fish going.

Eel tailed catfish (Tandanus Tandanus) are a very popular fish for aquaponics. They are bottom feeders which means they clean up if you overfeed, can co-exist with other fish, and are apparently one of the finest tasting fresh water fish. They can also grow up to 1m long!

The Heat

Welcome to 2012!

2011 was an interesting year, with a couple of new APers in the region. I hope to foster more of a community this year, so we can share ideas, knowledge, vegetables, and fish. This will happen as soon as I've found my feet again - we've just had a baby!

Coping with the heat!

Hi all,

Welcome to the first newsletter for CapitalAquaponics. This is a bit of a test run, so let me know what you think by emailing me direct at [email protected]

Really there's no format, it's just a bit of a ramble about impending doom (of our trout) - i.e. summer.
